WordPress setup trouble

by Mike

I’ve struggled with wordpress configuration for a couple of hours over the weekend. I still haven’t figured out why php cannot modify my mysql data contents. It must be something wrong with my server setup ’cause it’s pretty obvious that connection is made to the db server and query it. Darn it.

Oriental Flavour?

by Mike

Oriental Flavour. Just finished talking to a co-worker’s choice of lunch and I just had to ask the crowd. Mr. Noodle’s Oriental Flavoured noodle. What does that taste like? Is it just a whole continent of flavour crammed into one little cup? Or is it a left over flavour after labeling everything else as mushroom, shrimp, chicken, and beef and just didn’t know what to call the last flavour they had? I wonder what the brainstorming session was like before calling it “Oriental Flavour”. Why didn’t they just call it “American Flavour” or “African Falvour”?

too much time

by Mike

Some people have a very twisted sense of humor and some people compliment that with way too much time on their hands. I wonder how many people would fall for this joke and wonders if it really does work.

by the way, where is my blogextra!! it’s been going up and down all day! I guess it’s really the last push for me to setup my own server :p

Getting Old

by Mike

Sitting up slowly in his bed, he began to remember what seemed to be a distant past. The past when all of his dreams were still ahead to be realized. The over used phrase ‘you have your whole future ahead of you’ passes through his head. Still remembering how at one time, that brought a bright smile to his face. He suddenly shakes his head violently as if he can shake off whatever that has triggered his line of thought. Just then, he checks the clock and jumps out of the bed forgetting all about what has troubled him just a couple of seconds ago. Mumbling to himself “I forgot to set the alarm again!”, he rushes to the bathroom to start another repeating routine, too busy to continue with his thought and find the answer to the same question he’s been asking himself each and every morning.

Now, what do you think the question is??

Home made webserver

by Mike

it’s been a while since I’ve setup a webserver at home but I thought it’s about time. So I have gathered up my old equipments (Dual PII-300 system), suckered people into giving me their old parts they are not using (2GB ultra wide SCSI HDD from a co-worker and P133 machine from Ce). After I was done with all the setup over the weekend, I have following:

one Mandrake 9.1 Workstation and one WinXP workstation in Green Zone subnet (completely private and protected by firewall)
one Mandrake 9.1 web/ftp/file server in Orange Zone subnet (otherwise referred to as DMZ where it is isolated from rest of the network)
Smoothwall firewall out of P133 and 200MB HDD for web proxy. Three NIC taking care of all the TCP/IP traffic.

of course, I have my wireless network behind another firewall behind the smoothwall. Now, I just have to configure the softwares to do what I want them to do. Which might result in this blog getting relocated to my server at home and say fairwell to blogger.com… (that is if I don’t get lazy)
