As long as I can remember, I’ve had an unusual obsession with anything that requires electrical power to operate. What is commonly attributted to being a typical male, I have always been guilty of lusting after the next cool gadget. “It’s all about the cool factor”, I used to proclaim. In a way, it still is getting my paws on the latest and rarest toys but what has changed is my thinking process. It used to be more impulsive and I would just buy something ‘just because’.
My latest obsession has been taking up majority of my free time in surfing for all the reviews I can find. As I’m facing the biggest commitment of my life, I am still trying to justify my pursuit of the latest and the greatest.
I can’t help feeling a little bit guilty for this ‘selfish pursuit’…..

I know what you mean about this as an obsession. Though I have been as purchase-happy as you in the past, I have the same general tendencies.
Even now, as I’m facing the most disruptive (to my existing lifestyle) move, a lot of my efforts are focused around what tech toys to buy during my last chance in North America! It’s like I’m buying things before shipping off to some remote deserted island … which I kind of am, really.
Obiwan, the “just because” phenomenon is strong in this one.

Rebel XT (or 350 in other parts of the world) is actually an awesome camera but few things bugged me about it enough to push me to 20D. XT is all plastic housing, AF is slower enough for me to notice the difference after playing around with 20D and the viewfinder only shows 80% of the picture that is taken.
Not many differences and for some, it won’t even be an issue. It just bugged me enough.. that’s all.
