Experiencing Life through her eyes…

by Mike

As Sarah is getting older, I’m getting a new found pleasure in life. Every new thing she discovers, although most of these are no big deal everyday things, I started finding a new meaning to everything. Taking Sarah to the Toronto Zoo in the past weekend was probably one of the biggest treat for Diane and I because we got to experience all these different animals through Sarah’s eyes.

So far, Sarah categorizes all animals into one of three:

  1. Four Legged Animals without spots – Dog (sounds more like Mah!)
  2. Anything with wings – Duck (sounds like Dak)
  3. Four Legged Animals with spots – Cow (she calls them Mooooo)

The first animal we encountered at the zoo… a monkey…

I could see Sarah trying to figure out what was looking at her through the thick highly reflective glass cage.. After a few brief moment of pointing and after failing to classify the monkey as one of the three listed above, she defaulted to a low and slow grunt.

At least she didn’t call it a duck or a dog. :)
As the monkey turned around and walked away, Sarah called out after it with a little bit higher pitched grunt but it didn’t hear her and kept on walking.  Sarah continued on looking at the monkey’s back hoping it will turn around and come back until I carried her to the next animal’s cage.
